The Skills For a Healthy Life Framework was developed primarily through the efforts of many dedicated teachers, health educators, school staff, parents, and community members. These individuals researched current information regarding health education, other states framework documents as well as national examples of frameworks and curriculum. After many months of review, revision and input from others, we feel we have created a document that will serve the students of Alaska well.

As time has passed and revisions of this document have become numerous, it was evident that the full incorporation of physical education, home economics, counseling and health would make this document larger than what was manageable. Although all of these content areas are very important and integration of them is essential for healthy living, it was impossible to incorporate them in their fullest and complete sense under the umbrella of Skills For a Healthy Life. We have attempted to provide examples throughout the document that will assist teachers and school staff in addressing all of these content areas, and only wish we could have incorporated all more fully.
