Alaska Models - High School (9-12)
Triscience Disease Unit
http://pec.jun.alaska.edu:16080/~larsona/
Standards: Science, Technology, Health
"Students produce a documentary
on a member of their community who lives with a disease/illness or food allergy,
and experience through this individual what it is like to live with a medical
condition day to day. Through research, interviewing techniques, and multimedia,
students (in small groups) will create PowerPoint presentations documenting
the human perspective as well as the scientific basis (cause, effect(s), treatment,
to name a few), of the disease/illness in front of a panel of professionals
(medical, educational) and peers."
Earth History Unit Project
http://pec.jun.alaska.edu:16080/~burgesm/
Standards: Science, Language Arts, Technology
"This project is an examination
of the evidence that scientists use to explain the major changes in geology,
climate, and biology that have occurred throughout earth’s history. Student
teams work together to create a timeline exhibit that illustrates and describes
these changes. Student created multimedia presentations describe the evidence
used to develop the timeline. By the end of the unit, the students understand
that the geologic and climate changes that have occurred over time have also
caused changes in the organisms that inhabit earth. Humans, in addition to
being affected by these changes, have also elicited changes in geology, climate,
and the evolution of other organisms."
Alaska's Gold

source materials."
