gray arrow Master Artist and Apprentice Grant in Traditional Native Arts
Master Artist and Apprentice grants support and encourage the preservation and perpetuation of traditional Alaska Native art forms. An apprentice may apply for serious study with a recognized Master Artist in any traditional Alaska Native art form. The Council places the highest priority on apprenticeships in which an apprentice will be studying within his/her own cultural traditions, and the major part of the budget is assigned for the Master Artist's fee.

Grant funds may be used for Master Artist fees, to partially offset the costs of raw materials to be used in the project, and to cover travel costs essential to the apprenticeship. An Apprentice may request a grant in any amount. However, grant amounts do not usually exceed $2,000. A grant recipient is not required to provide a cash or in- kind match.

Career Opportunity Grants
Career Opportunity Grants are designed to provide financial assistance to professional artists for travel to in-state, national, or international events, programs or seminars and for other activities that will contribute to the strength of the artist's professional standing or skill. These cash awards help professional artists take advantage of impending, concrete opportunities that will significantly advance their work or careers. The awards are for unique, short-term opportunities that do not constitute routine completion of work in progress. Applicants may request grants in variable amounts from $100 to $1,000 rounded to the nearest $100. Career Opportunity Grants will not exceed $1,000. First time applicant must contact ASCA first.
