Deputy Commissioner Les Morse
Les Morse was named Deputy Commissioner of Education & Early Development on September 12, 2008. Morse served as Acting Commissioner from December 6, 2010 until February 2, 2011.
Morse's Alaska education career began as a teacher in 1986 in Hooper Bay, a village on the Bering Sea coast. Morse later taught at Juneau-Douglas High School and was principal at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School in Juneau. He joined the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development in 2003 and was Director of Assessment, Accountability & Information Management.
Morse holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Montana State University - Northern and master's degrees in educational leadership & policy studies and in educational technology from the University of Alaska Southeast.
He holds an Alaska administrator's certificate with endorsements as a superintendent and K-12 principal, and an Alaska teacher's certificate with endorsements in secondary history, business education, and K-12 technology.
